Jennifer Kimery has been a speech and language pathologist for many years, both as a student and a professional. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences at Purdue University in August, 1998, and soon relocated to Denver, CO due to her husband’s career opportunities. While in Denver, Jennifer worked for a non-profit organization as a speech-language aid for a year before the winds of change yet again required relocation and led her to the Medical University of South Carolina. Jennifer received her Master of Science in Rehabilitation-Communication Science and Disorders in May, 2003.
The three year program at MUSC offered many opportunities to practice speech and language pathology under close supervision while in a real clinical setting. Jennifer has worked with such populations as laryngectomee patients, who required measuring and fitting of Blom-Singer Tracheoesophageal Prostheses. She also participated in therapeutic voice counseling sessions involving Visi-Pitch equipment, and performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies. In addition, Jennifer also worked with acute care patients and outpatients in hospitals and transitional care units. In these settings, patients were evaluated and treated for speech and language disorders, oral-motor deficits, dysphagia, apraxia of speech, traumatic brain injury and cerebral vascular accident.
Jennifer’s professional experiences have taken her in a different direction. She performed her 9-month clinical fellowship and one year as a fully independent speech and language pathologist in the public school setting in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas of Southern California. In 2007 Jennifer and her husband welcomed the birth of their son and Jennifer took time off to be with him during infancy. Wanting to get away from the fast paced life of Los Angeles, Jennifer and her husband once again returned to Charleston where Jennifer began practicing as a speech and language pathologist in October, 2009.
Jennifer specializes in articulation disorders and language disorders, especially in children aged 2-10.
